Martin Browne Contemporary presents, Four Paintings from the War Years by Pham Luc. Luc is regarded as one of Vietnam’s most important modern artists, with work represented in collections throughout the world. Luc studied at the Hanoi University of Fine Arts and learnt calligraphy in China, learning the subtleties and philosophy of oriental traditions. During the war he was a Major in the Vietnam People’s Army but continued to paint during this time despite the scarcity of paint, brushes and canvas. The works presented here are from those years and are painted on burlap rice sacks.
