QAGOMA appoints Chris Saines as director - Art Collector

16 January 2013 | Chris Saines, director of the Auckland Art Gallery Toi o Tamaki for the past 15 years, will leave his position in March to take up his new appointment as director of the Queensland Art Gallery.

Saines was born in Australia and has 30 years experience working in leading public art institutions in Australia and New Zealand. In 2009 he secured a gift of 15 European modernist works valued at $115 million for the Auckland Art Gallery. His tenure at AAG also saw the gallery introduce the Auckland Triennial and the $50,000 Walters Prize.

Saines will commence as director of the Queensland Art Gallery on 29 April 2013.
