Record attendances at Art Dubai, according to organisers - Art Collector

2 April 2012 | The largest contemporary art fair in the United Arab Emirates closed last week with its highest attendance figures yet. Art Dubai attracted 22,500 regional and international guests including 75 museum groups. The show featured international galleries such as Galerie Rodolphe Janssen and Arndt.

Fair director Antonia Carver says “Now six years old, Art Dubai has a new maturity. In 2012, we reached out beyond our established base in the Middle East and South Asia, building new links for both the local arts scene and our visiting galleries, recognizing that it’s fundamental to always bring new blood into the fair.”

The fair was opened by the Crown prince of Dubai, HH Sheikh Hamdan bin Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, and this year’s program included a six-day Global Art Forum directed by writer and curator Shumon Basar as well as a series of presentations called Terrace Talks featuring director of the Asia Society Museum Melissa Chiu, collector and patron Richard Chang and Chinese performance artist Zhang Huan.
