|This weekend, Sullivan+Strumpf will preview solo shows by Tim Silver and Richard Lewer in Melbourne. |
The pop-up Melbourne exhibition, open to the public from 11am-5pm this Saturday and Sunday, is a prelude to Richard Lewer’s and Tim Silver's debut solo shows at Sullivan+Strumpf in March this year.
Melbourne based artist Richard Lewer presents an exhibition of paintings titled 'Parnngurr'. Parnngurr is a Martu aboriginal community approx 370 km east of Newman in the East Pilbara.
“This body of work documents my relationships with numerous members of the Parnngurr community, the Martumili artists, the store keeper, the coordinators, the elders etc, it looks at who lives there and how life is based on my experiences, I had the amazing opportunity to work beside and make paintings with the Martumili women, many are over 80 years old, they are extremely disciplined, they’re in the studio daily, the routine is simple and beautiful, start at 8.30am, cup of tea, settle into a day of painting, 3 o’clock stop, after painting they’re off to light a (controlled) bush fire and to try and catch bush turkey, goanna…".
