Rob McLeod: Tom and Jerry at the window - Art Collector

Rob McLeod's latest exhibition at {Suite} could be seen as a radical departure, or a step back into the past. Best known for his ply-wood cut outs, the ‘painter not artist’ he insists has returned after more than thirty years to the traditional rectangular canvas. However, only the support has changed - the off beat, zany, cartoon inspired figuration and cast are still there as well as some new images too: barbed wire, brooms sweeping away debris, television, ipad and cell phone screens cluttering the spaces and expanding an already complex narrative.

Unlikely events and impossible situations are made real, bringing a painted world to life through the tangibility of paint. These works, described as ‘amusing and ridiculous’ still remain able to engage serious issues.
