Russ Flatt: Remembering Forward - Art Collector

Russ Flatt, 'Epiphany', 2018, inkjet photograph on Hahnemüle Photo Rag, 775mm H x 1135mm W. Courtesy of the artist and Tim Melville Gallery.

It is stressful, sometimes, to recall childhood experience as an adult.

Recollections of certain events shift over time, leaving one wondering whether a particular ‘memory’ is a reality or just a misremembered abstract idea.

Coming of age, the rites of passage between childhood and adulthood, navigating new technologies, searching for your tribe …

Bringing up our 12-year-old son, and my attempts to view the world through his eyes and from his perspective, has revealed new ways of seeing and remembering for me.

Might it be that the journey for all of us is the journey toward feeling comfortable, at last, in our own skins?
