Sam Field: Have One On Me - Art Collector

Sam Field, ‘Young Settlers Looking Over Their New Jerusalem’, 2018. Oil on panel, 120 x 110cm. Courtesy: The artist and Despard Gallery, Hobart.

The artist says: "My works are an exploration of the interstice between our history and the present day. Based on my own life and experiences I am interested in how worlds cross over. How times and periods fold in and out of one another in a constant state of repetition and reinvention. My paintings are presented as stories of yesterday and a long time ago. They are everything I have ever known. They are things that have happened to me, places I’ve visited and histories I’ve read or been told. They are part of a perpetual narrative of Australian history. From stories of the frontier to ethnic corner stores, they weave through our relationships to race, identity, history, and folklore."
