Savanhdary Vongpoothorn: All is Burning - Art Collector

Savanhdary Vongpoothorn, All is Burning, 2014. Acrylic on perforated canvas, 120 x 100 cm. Courtesy: the artist and Martin Browne Contemporary Gallery, Paddington

Savanhdary Vongpoothorn takes her inspiration for this exhibition from her time spent last year at the Artist Retreat in Jaipur, India, particularly her visit to Agra Fort. It was from the architectural designs of this Fort that the lotus symbol came. The lotus symbolises reincarnation in Buddhism and the text Vongpoothorn uses in her works on paper come from the Fire Sutta (in Pali) or Fire Sermon. At the core of the Fire Sermon is "All is Burning", words spoken by the Buddha. The Fire Sermon focuses on liberation from the world of suffering and desire through a detachment from the five senses.
