Grounded is Shirley Macnamara's debut solo exhibition, which showcases new sculptures in spinifex and other naturally found organic materials. Macnamara holds close ties to her traditional bush country and favours using natural and found materials including ochre and spinifex to create objects such as guutu (vessels) and baskets. For Macnamara, spinifex signifies the strength and resilience of her people as well as reflecting her country. Her spinifex creations are often drawn from personal experience and memories and by the conditions of her changing environment.
