In the lead up to the 2014 Melbourne Cup, Alcaston Gallery presents SHIRLEY MACNAMARA's second solo exhibition Race Against Time, featuring Bush Fascinators and headwear made from found organic materials including Spinifex, ochre, precious stones, bone and feathers.

Whilst glamorous, the exhibition has the intent to promote the serious issue of climate change, which affects her beloved country and its people in far west Queensland.

Race Against Time continues Shirley’s experimentation with the material of Spinifex. For Shirley, Spinifex embodies the strength and resilience of her culture and country. Here the artist transposes the material into innovative new forms.
