Shmith wins inaugural $10,000 Macquarie prize - Art Collector

18 December 2012 | Sam Shmith is the winner of the inaugural Macquarie Group Emerging Artist Prize, worth $10,000.

He was selected by judge Michael Brand, the director of the Art Gallery of New South Wales, for a work titled
Untitled (In Spates 7).

The new award was launched to mark 25 years of the Macquarie Group collection. Ten established artists whose work is in the collection were invited to nominate one emerging artist each for inclusion in the prize.

Shmith was put forward by photographer Murray Fredericks.
