Vertex Vortex is an exhibition about charting the unexplored reaches of space and sea. Taking the NASA Mars Rover camera as a departure point, Simon Finn turns to computer-generated modeling, 3D printing and charcoal drawing in his attempt to pick apart its form and the images of uncharted landscapes it captures. Later, Finn draws on his time spent submerged in the Bass Strait to present an imagining of what the NASA camera would see after being submerged underwater. Here, Finn's use of technology is mediated by the use traditional drawing, just as the far reaches space are mediated by the mysterious depths of the ocean.
