6 March 2013 | Simon Mordant has just been announced as the Australian commissioner for the 2015 Venice Biennale.

He is currently the commissioner for the 2013 biennale, where Simryn Gill will be showcased in the Australian pavilion.

Rupert Myer, chair of the Australia Council, made the announcement today. He praised Mordant’s commitment to the Venice Biennale and said that the Australia Council is very pleased to re-appoint Mordant due to his dedication, dynamism and impressive track record in driving advocacy and fundraising programs for Australia’s participation in the Venice biennales.

The 2015 biennale will be a significant one for Australia as it will be the launch of the new Australian pavilion, which will be the only 21st century building in the Biennale gardens.
