Simon Taylor: Alkipi - Art Collector

Simon Taylor, Karrinyarra, 2012. Acrylic on canvas, 122 x 91cm. Courtesy: the artist and Martin Browne Contemporary, Sydney

Titled after a rugged region near the artist's studio in the Northern Territory, this new series of paintings reflects Simon Taylor's response to the landscape of this remote area of Australia. Following a residency in the United States last year, Taylor’s aspiration to break up the picture plane has been resolved in these complex images. Trusting more in his intuition - while simultaneously concentrating on smaller details including the colour, density and size of the marks used to construct each image - has allowed Taylor to create this extraordinary series of paintings that depict the Australian landscape in a sensuous yet subtle manner.
