Simon Terrill: Crowd Theory Adelaide - Art Collector

Simon Terrill, Crowd Theory Adelaide: Victoria Square/Tarntanyangga (detail), 2013. Type C print, three panels, x 389 x 160cm total. Courtesy: the artist and the Samstag Museum of Art, Adelaide

Simon Terrill’s immersive images explore ideas of community and the nature of crowds as part of an ongoing international photographic series. For each event, the artist invites the public to respond to his chosen site, while their specific actions are left undirected and uncontrolled. This exhibition presents a recount of his photographic event held in Victoria Square earlier this year.

Through this random orchestration of bodies in site-specific venues,
Crowd Theory seeks to expand upon accepted definitions and perceptions of what constitutes a community and how this converges with the implications of a crowd.
