Simryn Gill selected for Venice Biennale - Art Collector

28 November 2011 | Simryn Gill will be Australia’s representative at the 55th Venice Biennale in 2013. She will be the sole artist exhibiting in the Australian Pavilion in a presentation curated by Catherine de Zegher, who is also co-curator of the 2012 Biennale of Sydney.

Gill was selected by a panel including 2013 commissioner Simon Mordant, chair of the Australia Council’s visual arts board, Ted Snell, and the director of the Art Gallery of South Australia, Nick Mitzevich.

“Simryn’s work is deeply engaging and challenging,” says Mordant. “She will be making a new set of works for Venice and I am overjoyed to be working with both her and Catherine de Zegher in delivering a very exciting Australian contribution to this most important contemporary art exposition.”
