Smithsonian portrait gallery's new direction - Art Collector

12 February 2013 | The Smithsonian National Portrait Gallery has announced the appointment of new director Kim Sajet.

Sajet was born in Nigeria and raised in Australia, and began her academic career here. She earned a graduate diploma in museum studies from Deakin University, Melbourne and an MBA from Melbourne University which was completed at Harvard Business School.

Her professional art experience also began in Australia. She was director of Mornington Peninsula Regional Gallery from 1989 to 1993, followed by two years as director of Monash Gallery of Art.

The Smithsonian gallery houses portraits and photographs of the men and women who have pioneered American history and culture. Sajet will commence her new position on 1 April this year.
