Zoo showcases a new series of experimental watercolours by Steve Cox which sees the artist fearlessly penetrate the frozen masks of his troubled protagonists.

Throughout history, writers like Ovid, Jean de La Fontaine and George Orwell used animals in their fables and satires to accentuate fundamental human traits. In a similar vein, Cox’s characters reject the measured rationality of human behavior and unleash some of our innermost and basic emotional instincts that are at times primitive and raw. He uncovers an inner ferocity which bursts forth from his painted surfaces in the macabre cavalcade of ghoulish apparitions.
