Blood Generation is a retelling of Bougainville’s recent and complex history. From 1964, the Moroni people in Bougainville were subjected to harassment and exploitation and stripped of their land rights under Crown Law. Later, Australian-owned mining company Conzinc Rio Tinto set up an open-cut mine on this land. In 1988, the mine ceased operations when the local resistance movement sabotaged its water- and power-supply. The generation of children who grew up during the subsequent war were labeled by their elders as the ‘blood generation’.
