TarraWarra Museum of Art

TarraWarra Museum of Art is a not-for-profit institution that showcases Australian and international art from the second half of the 20th century to the present day.

TarraWarra Museum of Art and its collection is a gift from Eva Besen AO and Marc Besen AO to the people of Australia, making it the first significant privately funded public art museum in the country. The Besen Family Foundation is the museum’s principal sponsor. The museum opened to the public in 2003. The award-wining building was designed by architect Allan Powell.

The collection

The collection includes works by leading figures in Australian art from each decade of the last 60 years, with a focus on painting.

Highlights include works by Richard Bell, Sydney Ball, Charles Blackman, Peter Booth, Arthur Boyd, John Brack, William Dobell, Russell Drysdale, Ian Fairweather, Rosalie Gascoigne, Brent Harris, Joy Hester, Dale Hickey, Robert Jacks, Roger Kemp, Joanna Lamb, Godfrey Miller, Sidney Nolan, Susan Norrie, John Olsen, John Perceval, Rosslynd Piggott, Jeffrey Smart, Sally Smart, Edwin Tanner, Imants Tillers, Albert Tucker, Tony Tuckson, Michelle Ussher, Danila Vassilieff, Brett Whiteley and Fred Williams.

Exhibition highlights

Upcoming exhibition highlights showing from 29 November 2014 to 15 March 2015 include Ian Fairweather: Drunken Buddha curated by Steve Alderton; Tony Tuckson: Paintings and Drawings and a solo exhibition by Gosia Wlodarczak. Showing from 28 March 2015 to 8 June 2015 is Kate Beynon, Earth and Sky: John Mawurndjul and Gulumbu Yunupingu curated by Hetti Perkins and Climarte at TarraWarra Museum of Art. Showing from 21 June 2015 to 16 August 2015 is The Triumph of Modernism: Works from the TarraWarra Museum of Art Collection curated by Edmund Capon in collaboration with Hazelhurst Regional Gallery. Showing from 29 August 2015 to 8 November 2015 is TarraWarra International: Pierre Huyghe curated by Amelia Barikin and Victoria Lynn.
