Teresa Baker: Malilinya Tjina Ankunytja – The Tracks of Malilunya - Art Collector

Teresa Baker, Minyma Malilunya 2017. Synthetic polymer paint on canvas. 200 x 300cm. Courtesy of The Artist and Vivien Anderson Gallery, Melbourne.

Teresa Baker paints Kalaya Munu Malilu Tjukurpa, the creation story Minyma Malilunya. The story of Malilu is a celebration of strength and endurance. The paintings allude to a deeper sense of space and time that draws you into the cosmos of the painted surface and propels you into deep metaphysical space, these exuberant paintings have a palpable sense of physicality and dynamism about them: of bold movement and propulsion. In this way, they connect, as the late renowned indigenous artist Trevor Nickolls previously noted, Dreamtime to Machinetime, marrying vastly different time spans and their corresponding subjectivities.
