Melbourne is definitely the place to be for art lovers in early August. The Other Art Fair (TOAF) is on at the same time as the Melbourne Art Fair and SPRING1883.

This fair offers collectors a chance to discover work by emerging artists, and to meet those artists face to face. Devised in London in 2011 specifically for unrepresented artists, TOAF now runs in seven cities across the world.

100 emerging artists hailing from Australia, New Zealand, Japan, Singapore, Spain, South Africa, the UAE and the United States will participate in this year’s fair, giving collectors direct access to plenty of bourgeoning talent.

“Every edition of the fair is the same in each city, in that artists are there for the duration of the fair, manning their booth and selling work direct to the public,” says fair director Zoe Paulsen. “It works well on both levels – for artists it’s a great opportunity to network and form direct relationships, while visitors have the opportunity to meet artists and discover new practices.

“By providing a supportive environment, we continue to see a diverse range of emerging artists choosing to participate in The Other Art Fair. Interestingly, three out of four artists at the upcoming Melbourne fair are female, the highest representation of female artists in The Other Art Fair’s global history.”

The fair runs from 2 to 5 October 2018. Visit melbourne.theotherartfair.com for a full artist list and program details.

The Other Art Fair is also offering Art Collector readers 50 per cent of General Admission tickets to the fair.
