Melbourne-based gallery This Is No Fantasy + Dianne Tanzer Gallery has added Vincent Namatjira to their strong stable of artists.

The great-grandson of the renowned landscape water-colourist Albert Namatjira, Vincent Namatjira’s practice is an investigatory journey of self-discovery and search for identity. The artist paints the connection between himself and his grandfather’s legacy, creating further dialogue of the Namatjira story: "I hope my grandfather would be quite proud, maybe smiling down on me; because I won’t let him go. I just keep carrying him on, his name and our families’ stories."

Vincent’s work is currently showing in Indigenous Australia: Enduring Civilisation at the British Museum in London, and will be exhibiting at This Is No Fantasy later this year.

The artist’s work has been shortlisted in significant awards, including the National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Art Awards (finalist: 2013, 2014), the John Fries Memorial Award (finalist: 2013) and the Outback Art Award, Broken Hill Regional Art Gallery. His work is held in collections including the British Museum, Artbank, and Flinders University Art Museum and Queensland Art Gallery.
