31 July 2012 | This week the Australian art world descends on Melbourne for the Melbourne Art Fair. The vernissage takes place on 1 August 2012, with the fair then open to the general public from Thursday through Sunday.

Over 80 galleries from Australia and New Zealand are taking part this year.

Adelaide’s Greenaway Art Gallery will present a group show including Mat Collishaw, Ariel Hassan and Santiago Sierra.

Jensen Gallery, with galleries in Sydney and Auckland, will show Callum Innes, Jude Rae and Tony Oursler, among others.

Roslyn Oxley9 Gallery is also staging a group exhibition of gallery artists, including Nyapanyapa Yunupingu, Dale Frank, Newell Harry and Linda Marrinon.

Other highlights to look out for include Fiona Lowry and Kate Rohde at the Karen Woodbury Gallery stand, Roberta Thornley at Tim Melville Gallery, Ross Laurie at Damien Minton Gallery, and Craig Waddell and Julian Hooper at Gallery 9.

There’s also an exhibition of geometric abstraction at Charles Nodrum Gallery, which will feature Sydney Ball and Justin Andrews, and a group show of work by Tony Garifalakis, Trent Parke and Tim Stirling at Hugo Michell Gallery.

Most galleries are choosing to present group shows, however there are solo presentations too, including a Leslie Rice solo presented jointly by Sophie Gannon Gallery and Jan Murphy Gallery.
