12 June 2012 | This week the focus of the international art world is on Basel. Several local artists are in town, including New Zealander Simon Denny, who is showing with Michael Lett in the Art Statements section of the Art Basel art fair.

Denny, who is now based in Berlin and who recently won the German Ars Viva prize, is presenting a video work called
Channel Document that looks at the way the New Zealand government has, in redesigning the New Zealand passport, redefined the country’s cultural identity.

Work by Melbourne painter Sam Leach is in the Volta8 satellite fair, shown by Sullivan+Strumpf Fine Art from Sydney, and Ruth Buchanan is being exhibited by Auckland gallery Hopkinson Cundy in Liste, also on at the same time as Art Basel.

Volta8 continues until 16 June 2012. Art Basel an Liste both continue until 17 June 2012.
