Thornton Walker has become one of Australia’s most successful and renowned tonal painters and his interest in the dynamics of composition, perspective and spatial depth remain constant. His recent oil paintings depict glimpses of pristine coves and rocky outcrops from the walking tracks of the south coast, near Bateman’s Bay. These works are imbued with sensitivity, a superb colour palette and often an air of spirituality that instantly engages and involves the viewer. Thornton’s paintings are represented in many collections including the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of New South Wales, Art Gallery of Western Australia and the British Museum.
