Tjanpi Desert Weavers: New works - Art Collector

This exhibition showcases new fibre baskets and animal weavings by the Tjanpi Desert Weavers from Alice Springs. Their highly skilled and distinctive style of weaving with native dry grass and other natural materials is closely linked with keeping their culture alive and maintaining strong connections with their country.

This new body of work coincides with the major exhibition
String Theory: Focus on Contemporary Australian Art at the Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney (16 August – 27 October 2013), which features artwork by over 30 Indigenous artists and groups working in the traditions of textile and craft that range from sculpture, painting, photography and video.
