Tjarlirli Art Centre represents the artists of Tjukurla in the Ngannyatjarra lands of Western Australia. The art centre is a hub of activity and creation and is positioned in one of the most remote communities in Australia. Located on the fringes of the Pintupi Lands, the artists share strong ties with the Papunya Tula movement and have a reputation for an individual and captivating style. The art being created at Tjarlirli Art resonates with the people’s deep passion for their country and culture.
Established in 2006, Tjarlirli Art has been recognised as a source of culturally rich and vibrant work produced by elders such as Nyarapayi Giles, Katjarra Butler, Esther Giles, Annie Farmer, Elsa Young and the late Adrian Young, Neil Maxwell, Kelly Peterman and Mary Gibson.
Tjarlirli Art has many young artists who have established a name for themselves as exciting new painters in the art world. Artists such as Adam Butler, Bob Gibson, Eileen Giles, Jason Butler, Deborah Young, Andrea Giles, Lydia Young, Faith Butler, Sheila Giles, Marlene Young and Nola Bennett are accomplished and dynamic painters.
As the only business venture in Tjukurla, Tjarlirli Art is providing much needed income and employment in this remote town of approximately 50 people. As a member of Desart and Western Desert Mob, the art centre has a strong mandate to provide training and skills development for its members and opportunities for Indigenous artists to travel and participate in industry events of all kinds.
Tjarlirli Art's core business is the preservation, maintenance and promotion of the artwork of the Ngaanyatjarra people by nurturing the development of traditional and contemporary artistic practice, exploring new mediums and innovative opportunities for creative expression.
Work from Tjarlirli Art is commanding the attention of discerning buyers and has been acquired by a number of major collections in Australia and abroad.
