Todd McMillan: There is no hope - Art Collector

Courtesy: the artist and Sarah Cottier Gallery, Paddington

At the end of 2014 Todd McMillan set out on a voyage to Antarctica. This journey, and its artefacts, form the basis for the exhibition,There is no hope. Sailing across the Drake’s Passage - a section of ocean between Ushuaia on the southern most tip of Argentina and the Antarctic peninsular, McMillan had a conversation with one of the scientists onboard the vessel. Their conversation concerned the fate of the earth and the possibility of its revival. The works produced express the melancholy of such a question and the conclusion drawn by the scientist gives the show its title. There is no hope furthers Todd McMillans investigations into the possibilities of cyanotypes, however, this time McMillan pushes the boundaries of the technique to create painted photographic images.
