In 1824 a collection of 16 coloured aquatints, mounted on card, were printed for sale in London with the title: 'Myriorama, a Collection of Many Thousand Landscapes. Designed by Mr Clark.' These were designed so that any two or more placed together would form a continuous picture. I began my series of paintings on this theme in 1985.

- Tony Clark

Tony Clark's ongoing Myriorama project began more than thirty years ago. These Arcadian landscapes are sequentially interchangeable, inviting the player (or viewer) to arrange and rearrange an endless panorama. In his most recent body of work, Clark's framing devices theatrically disrupt his vivid and brooding landscapes, highlighting the relationship between the picture plane and the architecture of its display.

A major retrospective of Clark's work, Tony Clark - Public and Private Paintings 1982-1998 was held at the Heide Museum of Modern Art, Melbourne in 1998. He was also included in the prestigious Documenta IX, 1992 in Kassel; A Bird in the Hand: Paintings by Tony Clark and John Wolseley, La Trobe University Visual Arts Centre, Bendigo and Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney, 2006; and Nick Cave - The Exhibition, Arts Centre, Melbourne 2007. His work is included in numerous public collections across Australia including the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Sydney; Museum of Contemporary Art, Sydney; National Gallery of Victoria, Melbourne; and the National Portrait Gallery of Australia, Canberra.
