Tony Curran: Loop - Art Collector

Tony Curran’s new body of work translates simple digital brush marks into rhythmic, technophilic and hard-edged abstractions. By using fragments of observational drawings made on an iPad, the artist has remixed these into compositions that oscillate between random and constructed, abstract and figurative, human and machine made.

Tony Curran is a Canberra based artist who uses painting, drawing, video, and coding in order to test the relationship between the programmatic and the spontaneous. Curran graduated with a PhD in Fine Art from Charles Sturt University in 2015 and has exhibited in Sydney and Melbourne in solo and group shows. He teaches in Painting and Foundation Studies at the ANU School of Art and Design in Canberra and in Art History at Charles Sturt University in Wagga Wagga, NSW. He was a finalist in the Archibald Prize in 2015, the Brett Whiteley Travelling Art Scholarship in 2014 and has been a Visiting Artist at the Australian National University in 2015-16 and the National Portrait Gallery in 2013. Curran’s work is currently touring in the Manly Art Gallery & Museum’s exhibition
