Touring solo exhibition for Penny Byrne - Art Collector

31 January 2011 | Ceramicist Penny Byrne is the subject of a new Victorian touring exhibition curated by Deakin University Art Gallery.

The solo exhibition includes early pieces, produced over five years ago, as well as her most current work.

Byrne, who is known for her cutting political and social commentary, has coined the term
Commentariat for the title of the exhibition. A combination of the words commentator and proletariat, Byrne says the name refers to the “chattering classes” – the educated middle class who comment on politics and the media through blogs and Facebook.

The exhibition will remain on view at Deakin University Art Gallery until 2 April 2011. It will tour to Geelong Gallery later this year and then Warrnambool Art Gallery in 2012.
