11 July 2011 | The Maddocks Art Prizes have been awarded to Trevelyan Clay and Justene Williams. Held every two years, the prize provides an opportunity to visit the Venice Biennale and is awarded to two emerging Australian artists who are in residency programs at Gertrude Contemporary Art in Melbourne or Artspace in Sydney.

Included in the prize is a return airfare to Venice, accommodation and $3,000 in cash, the total value of each prize amounting to approximately $10,000.

Established in 2005 the prize was judged this year by Melbourne International Arts Festival visual arts coordinator Simon Maidment, CarriageWorks’s Lisa Havilah, Venice Biennale commissioner Doug Hall and a representative from Maddocks.

Previous winners of the prize include Mira Gojak in 2005, Benjamin Armstrong in 2007 and Richard Lewer in 2009.
