Amanda Gruenwald: New Paintings - Art Collector

Amanda Gruenwald: Alizarin Pink, 2016. 180 x 120 cm. Acrylic and oil on canvas. Courtesy: the artist and Trish Clark Gallery.

Amanda Gruenwald, distinguishing herself as a formidable emerging artist, presents her first exhibition at Trish Clark Gallery. A 2012 graduate of Auckland University’s Elam School of Fine Arts, and the recipient of 2 awards in her final year, Gruenwald has developed an ambitious painting practice, working at scale and taking colour and form as her subjects.

Working primarily in oil over extended timeframes, Gruenwald’s process of erasure and addition builds and subtracts layers of paint, oscillating between translucent washes and concrete brushwork. Her distinctive shapes collide, bleed and fray into one another, as she mediates a balance between deliberation and intuition.
