10 April 2013 | Sydney based artists Liam Benson and Justine Varga have been announced as joint winners of the Josephine Ulrick and Win Schubert Photography Award for 2013, sharing the $20,000 main prize.

The award is held annually at the Gold Coast City Gallery and is now in its 13th year. This year's guest judge was renowned New Zealand photographer Anne Noble, who selected 65 finalists from nearly 300 entries before deciding on jointly awarding Benson and Varga as the winners.

Noble described Benson's winning work
The Opal Queen, pictured above right, as being a striking contribution to the genre of performative self-portraiture. Varga's winning work Moving Out #1, pictured above left, was described by Noble as an evocative and complex observational project.

The winning and shortlisted works will be on display at the Gold Coast City Gallery until 19 May 2013.
