9 July 2012 | Francis Upritchard, New Zealand’s 2009 Venice Biennale representative, is having her first major solo exhibition in the United Kingdom.

A Hand of Cards is on show at the Nottingham Contemporary until September.

The exhibition features over 20 recent sculptural works, all human figures. Some are soldiers, seemingly captured mid attack, others are holy fools or hippies, capturing Upritchard’s interest in the failures of the counterculture of the 1960s and 1970s.

Upritchard has been based in the United Kingdom since the late 1990s. She continues to show regularly in New Zealand.
