Valuers - Australian Art Collector

Valuations are done for insurance, tax and legal purposes, or simply to find out an artwork’s worth. Values can change over time so it is important to have artworks professionally valued every few years.

A good valuer will have an extensive knowledge of current market trends and they usually specialise in a particular area. Experience and qualification are essential; a collector should seek valuers who are members of the Australian Valuers and Auctioneers Association or who are approved by the Federal Government’s Taxation Incentives for the Arts Scheme.

It is also worth remembering that an artwork’s value is determined by a variety of factors and should only be considered an estimate and not a guaranteed sale price.
