Yulyurlu: Yulyurlu Lorna Fencer Napurrurla - Art Collector

26 September 2011 | The late Yulyurlu Lorna Fencer Napurrurla is the subject of a new monograph, published to accompany a touring exhibition of her work.

Napurrurla, who was born in the 1920s, was a Warlpiri painter known for her bold paintings of the yam dreaming.

The book has been edited by Margie West, an emeritus professor at the Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory, and includes a lengthy essay by curator and writer Christine Nicholls as well as a personal recollection of Napurrurla put forward by Northern Territory artist Chips Mackinolty.

The next stop for the exhibition is the Drill Hall Gallery in Canberra, where it will run from 10 November to 18 December 2011 before moving onto the Benalla Art Gallery, Bathurst Art Gallery and Noosa Regional Gallery among other regional and university galleries.
