Yuria Okamura: Forms and Diagrams (For Harmonic Ideals) - Art Collector

Yuria Okamura, Wander 1, 2015, acrylic and ink on paper, 120 x 96cm Courtesy: the artist and Anna Pappas Gallery.

Yuria Okamura's geometric drawings explore diagrams as a generative visual tool for reinterpreting ideational space. Key concepts and strategies of mapping, connecting, and imagining inform Okamura’s visual language, and underpin a drawing practice that embraces the utopian implications of geometric forms: ideals concerned with order, balance, and harmony.

Drawing inspiration from highly symbolic referents, including religious structures and esoteric symbols, Okamura engages with visual strategies central to the fields of architecture, scientific illustration, and cartography. It is within these unified and reconfigured diagrammatic works that Okamura explores the potential of abstract drawing to construct an inclusive, holistic, and expansive worldview.
